I am Kat Bruner James,
and I am running for a four-year term (2020-2023)
on the Ferndale City Council.
Ferndale is my forever home, and I want to serve the community that I love by offering my skills and vision to City Council. Here's what you can expect from me:
I will be an independent voice for City Council.
My 20+ years of activism, 17 years as an engaged Ferndale resident, and 12 years as a civil rights attorney have provided me with a broad perspective. Throughout that time, I have worked with local leaders with a collaborative and effective approach.
I speak up for the unheard, and my work is not limited to any individual organization, endorser, or agenda.
I am a champion for community engagement.
To me, this is the foundation of local democracy. On Council, I will be vigilant in ensuring that the exchange of information and ideas between City leadership and residents is strengthened.
My work in Citizens for a Fair Ferndale and Ferndale Inclusion Network demonstrates my commitment to forging new relationships and successfully navigating through difficult conversations.
I am an advocate for social justice.
My entire career has been dedicated to protecting people from abuse by corporate and government interests. This experience will inform my contribution at the Council table.
Where systemic change is needed to address inequity, I will work to ensure that all of community members are afforded fair and just opportunities.
